Casa de Lewis bio picture

Hola peeps! Welcome to Casa de Lewis. We are twenty somethings who got married in 2010, bought a house in 2011, and had a sweet baby girl in 2012! We both started our careers as CPAs and now Reagan works in finance and I have my own photography business. I blog about my baby girl (obviously), products we love, crafts, photography, DIY projects, sweet treats, random life tidbits, and the balance of being a mom and business owner! Our house is always a work in progress but we love working on it and making it our own. Thanks for stopping by!

Easy DIY Tassel

Easy diy tassel coral peach yellow girl

This is the first project that I started for Paige’s room update! Since we started originally with a gender neutral space I have slowly been trying to make it a bit more girly. I’m finally pulling out the big guns and adding some fun new wall art! Starting with this tassel garland that I am going to hang over her crib! I loved the sweet canvas and star mobile that I originally hung over her crib but she pulled down the canvas at one point and has slowly been pulling off the stars! That little toot  :) So I took all of it down and began to think about what I could put back up there. It is definitely a tricky space because you have to consider your baby’s safety. I didn’t want anything heavy or sharp and I didn’t want anything to hang too low. I settled on a coral, peach, and yellow garland and when I started making these adorable tassels I couldn’t believe how easy it was! The best part is that all you need is string!! Here is quick tutorial of how I made these lovelies.

I picked up some pretty crochet thread in coral, peach, and yellow, and also one that had a little bit of metallic gold in it. But you can use any type of string or yarn.

I wanted the tassels to be a decent size so I ended up using the iPad as my ruler! I wrapped the thread around the iPad approximately 80 times for each tassel. This is obviously a great project to do while you sit in front of the tv and watch Netflix!

After 80 rounds, I clipped the end of the string and slid the entire loop off of the iPad. I cut a piece of the metallic thread and simply tied a knot around the middle of my yellow thread loop.

Than all you have to do is clip the bottom of the tassel so that it is no longer in a million loops!

As I was hanging up the garland this weekend I realized I was going to need MORE tassels! So I created a few more in each color and I am adding in gold tassels as well. I have a couple more gold tassels to make and then the garland should be complete! Completed garland pic coming soon  :)

Puddle Jumpin’

It’s been an interesting week here at casa de lew. Highlights include going to Utopia, TX (fun), hitting a deer (not fun), and catching baby puke in my hand (really not fun). Yup. We came home early from Utopia last Friday and we were greeted with a light, steady rain fall while we all napped. After naps, we went on a walk and Paige wanted to get out and walk a bit. She played in her first puddles and thought it was quite fun! Well, of course I didn’t have my camera! We ate dinner and came back out to the puddle because I really wanted to document her first puddle jumpin’. She wasn’t nearly as thrilled with the puddle on the second attempt but I’m still really glad to have captured these photos so I can document the memory  :)

Hobby Lobby Finds!

I’ve been to Hobby Lobby way too many times in the last couple of weeks! But last week when I was there I discovered a whole section of prints, some of which were by Lindsay Letters, which I adore!! So when I saw that all of their wall art was 50% off this week, I ran my little tush back to the store as fast as I could! Here are a few things that I scored. (PS – I’m probably not going to keep all of these but I couldn’t decide in the store, especially with a toddler in tow, so I just bought all of them and brought them home to decide!!)

I had Paige’s room on the brain but I love these two Lindsay Letter prints! It is a little hard to tell but the text is gold on the print above as well and looks so fun when the light hits it! The frame above was $25 and the one below was $15 on sale!lindsay letters print on sale at hobby lobby hello sweet beautiful girl gold printlindsay letters on sale at hobby lobby be brave navy blue canvas

Jennifer @ Geek Chic Mama - Looks like a great haul! I particularly love the arrow and ampersand.

July 16, 2014 - 8:12 pm

donya - I saw these last weekend, and while I love them, it wasn’t quite enough to purchase. BUT, I didn’t see that ‘Be Brave, Strong, & Courageous’ one! Definitely will have to go look closer!

July 16, 2014 - 8:29 pm

Ali - Whyyyy did you post this?!? I’ve been wanting to do a gallery wall in our bedroom, but I’ve been resisting the urge to purchase new items…now I feel like I HAVE to! Haha! Thanks for the tip!

July 16, 2014 - 8:32 pm

laura - I NEED that dark blue one!

July 17, 2014 - 4:55 pm

Sada - Jennifer, I’m such a sucker for arrows lately! And I probably have too many ampersands in my house but this one is so great since it is big!

July 17, 2014 - 4:57 pm

Sada - Haha, sorry Ali! It’s on sale though?! :)

July 19, 2014 - 12:24 am

Caden - I am addicted to Hobby Lobby. My husband cringes haha!

July 21, 2014 - 3:59 pm

Kristin C. - LOVE!

July 21, 2014 - 11:50 pm

Sada - I totally understand Caden! :) And yes, it is terribly addicting!

July 23, 2014 - 5:19 pm

Kirk - Did the “the world is super lucky to have you” come with glass or hard plastic in front of the print?

July 24, 2014 - 8:42 am

Stacy - I just discovered them tonight too and was SO excited! Did you find the ‘Be Brave, Strong and Courageous’ canvas there too??

July 24, 2014 - 1:56 pm

Sada - Stacy – Yes! Everything is from Hobby Lobby! The canvas wasn’t in the same spot as the other framed prints, if that helps :)

July 24, 2014 - 1:57 pm

Sada - Kirk – I can take a look at it when I get home because I’m not completely sure, but it may be plastic. I didn’t notice it, but I also didn’t really inspect it.

July 24, 2014 - 3:19 pm

Stacy - Oh that just made my day!! I’ll have to get back over and see if I can find it for my little guy’s big boy room I’m putting together! It’s funny, when I was browsing Hobby Lobby last night I literally stopped at every. other. item. you pictured in this post, haha! I told my husband I *had* to follow your blog after that!

July 24, 2014 - 3:25 pm

Sada - Haha, thanks Stacy! You must have a good eye! Great minds think alike :)

July 24, 2014 - 8:13 pm

Kirk - Just because we purchased it a while back and then one day I saw some of the other pictures they sold that look similar that had plastic or glass in front of the print. So I started looking online for the picture and came across this page and it looks like there’s a glare on your picture which leads me to believe there should have been something covering the print and I’m thinking of returning it to hobby lobby to find one that has it.

July 24, 2014 - 9:30 pm

Sada - Gotcha, yes, mine definitely has a piece of glass covering the print.

BIG news at Casa de Lewis! We got Milo in February of 2012 (see how cuuuuute he was here!) and for two years we’ve been guessing at what kind of mix he might be. Initially everyone told us he was a chiweenie dog (mix of chihuahua and dachshund) and although he is a big weenie, he is definitely not a dachshund! Well, we finally nailed it down! We are pretty sure he is a mix between a manchester terrier and a chihuahua! Google it if you are interested. The only bad part is that there is no clever nickname for this mix…don’t worry, I’m working on it. (manchihuater? needs work).

Are you in MOPS? It is a wonderful group for moms of preschoolers. You can find a group near you here. Well they sent out a package of goodies this week and I about died when I opened it! I love this theme – “Be You, Bravely”. And the design?! Perfection! There were cute notecards and a free printable and other fun goodies included! But I am excited to dig into this book. The first page reeled me in.

Felt Pinwheel Tutorial

Here’s my little model…

And here is the tutorial on how to make these felt pinwheels!

how to make diy felt pinwheel mint teal

Materials Needed: Felt | Scissors | Hot Glue Gun | Alligator Clip or Elastic for Headband

1 || Cut two circles approximately 2 inches in diameter. I traced the bottom of a can of spray paint  :)

diy felt pinwheel tutorial hair clip or headband

2 || You are essentially going to cut an “X” shape in your circle. I found the easiest way to do it is to fold the circle in half and snip the crease about 1/3 of the way into the circle, on each side.

felt pinwheel hair clip tutorial ideas for baby hair clip or headbanddiy felt pinwheel

3 || Now fold your circle in half the opposite direction and make the same two cuts in the crease.

4 || Take one corner from each section and fold it into the center of the circle. Hot glue both layers of felt.

5 || Do this for all four sections and you have a pinwheel!

Glue this to your clip or elastic and you have a fun new hair accessory for your little one!

And here is one more picture of my cute model because I can’t believe how much of a kid she looks like in this photo. No longer my baby. There’s something about the socks with sneaks and jean shorts that screams KID to me!
