Casa de Lewis bio picture

Hola peeps! Welcome to Casa de Lewis. We are twenty somethings who got married in 2010, bought a house in 2011, and had a sweet baby girl in 2012! We both started our careers as CPAs and now Reagan works in finance and I have my own photography business. I blog about my baby girl (obviously), products we love, crafts, photography, DIY projects, sweet treats, random life tidbits, and the balance of being a mom and business owner! Our house is always a work in progress but we love working on it and making it our own. Thanks for stopping by!

Paint Wars

I love how paint can so dramatically change the look of a room but I have a serious love/hate relationship with it! And for some reason, Paige’s room has had so many ups & downs! The most recent hiccup occurred last week after I hung the tassel garland. I went to fill a few holes and touch up the paint, no big deal, right? I had just been at Sherwin Williams and got another sample of Silverplate at 50% to have for future touchups. I started to touch up the areas and very liberally (as you will see below) just painted over the areas in need. It didn’t even cross my mind that the paint sample would potentially not match the paint I had on my wall! Oh, naive little me. I stared at it after I finished and panicked!! It was way too light! I ran out to the shed to see if we had any of the original paint left over. Our bedroom is actually paint Silverplate as well but at 100% and nothing in the shed was marked 50% or 100%. So I did my best guess and went back and painted the same areas with what I thought was now the correct shade…nope. Serious FAIL. You can see below –

Now the paint was too dark! I was so frustrated with the paint and mad at myself. Reagan went out of town for a few days so I just let it be and stewed over what I should do. On Sunday afternoon Reagan came home and took Paige to the pool. I knew that if I was going to have to repaint this whole wall this was my opportunity!

DIY Tips for Painting-0002

I decided to try one more time to match the paint. I mixed a little of the “too dark” shade with the “too light” shade. I was hoping that I could still just paint over my boo boo area (because I’m lazy and impatient). After watching paint dry for a bit I finally added a lot of paint together and you guys…it MATCHED! I don’t know how it happened and I honestly don’t recommend it because I am pretty sure it was a fluke! I ended up rolling a huge area still but I was so happy that I didn’t have to totally repaint the whole wall! The only problem was that now the room was a wreck…

Why is it that projects have to get really ugly before they finally get pretty??

DIY Tips for Painting-0004

Well, good news is that the wall is painted and I finally snapped a few shots of the garland hanging up!! Woo hoo! Here’s a sneak!

Every Wednesday night from 6-8pm, a Krispy Kreme by us holds Family Night. Aka FREE DONUT DECORATING + Kids Activities! AKA Awesomesauce. If you follow this blog or my Instagram, you know how this family feels about donuts. I heart donuts. I found out about this amazing event via San Antonio Mom Blogs! If you are in San Antonio, Colleen posts every week about free events going on! Krispy Kreme Family Night is hosted at a few different locations around Texas, you can click here to see all of the locations. We’ve been to family night twice now and I finally remembered to bring my camera last night to snap a few pics.

Krispy Kreme Texas Family Night Free Donut Decorating Kids Crafts Activities

I am going to be honest and say that Paige is on the younger side for this activity. However, at 20 months, Paige is pretty much on the young side for EVERY activity (or so it feels like). But it is a great event, the staff are all really nice, and she loves watching the donuts being made so it’s a win for us.

Krispy Kreme Family Night Donut Decorating

The coolest part is that your munchkin can decorate their own donut! How fun is that? I’d secretly really like to decorate my own too but I try to pretend like “this is for the kids”.

Thankfully the wonderful staff helped Paige to make her donut!

My child only wants to eat the sprinkles….go figure. She’ll eat toothpaste, chalk, any type of medicinal cream, but donuts – only the sprinkles, please.

Can we talk about her messy ponytail for one second? This is the first time I’ve put it all the way up! Love.

Oh, and I should probably mention Paige’s black eye. Gang fight. Jk, that’s what I posted on Insta earlier this week. She actually just got in a fight with a wooden headboard  :(

Aaaand this is how Paige left her donut. Such a silly girl. They do also have some fun activities for kids to do. Last time they had a cool art project with foam stickers that you could work on. My niece, Liesl, loved it. This time Paige was more interested in looking at the donuts and trying to crawl behind the counter  :)

Colleen Pence - Thanks so much for mentioning my site, Sada! Krispy Kreme is one of our very favorite places too. We’ve hosted two of our son’s birthday parties there (they do an amazing job and it’s only $100 for 12 kids plus a cake made of donuts!).

July 31, 2014 - 11:42 pm

Katie - That’s awesome! I keep thinking I’ll take the littles and then forget. You got some fabulous pictures! My littlest also only eats the sprinkles – except for Sunday mornings when the only option from the donut table at Church is glazed… Then she’ll actually eat the donut.

August 4, 2014 - 9:20 pm

Sada - That’s too funny, Katie! You’d think she’d eat the one with sprinkles and not the plain glazed! Kids :)

Around here…

When I get back into the “project zone” it’s all over. I literally start thinking of 10,000 projects I want to tackle. I’m trying really hard to finish each project before I start any new ones! I just finished Paige’s tassel garland! I will take pictures of it tomorrow. Here is a sneak peek of another project for Paige’s room. I’m hoping to finish everything this week, however, the only time I have to work on things is usually after 11pm so we’ll see if I can do it!

July 31, 2014 - 9:07 pm

Sada - Deb, I actually got them in the dollar bin at Target. Unfortunately, it was awhile ago and I have been pondering what I could do with them this whole time. But I think you could probably recreate the look with another material fairly easily…

Easy DIY Tassel

Easy diy tassel coral peach yellow girl

This is the first project that I started for Paige’s room update! Since we started originally with a gender neutral space I have slowly been trying to make it a bit more girly. I’m finally pulling out the big guns and adding some fun new wall art! Starting with this tassel garland that I am going to hang over her crib! I loved the sweet canvas and star mobile that I originally hung over her crib but she pulled down the canvas at one point and has slowly been pulling off the stars! That little toot  :)So I took all of it down and began to think about what I could put back up there. It is definitely a tricky space because you have to consider your baby’s safety. I didn’t want anything heavy or sharp and I didn’t want anything to hang too low. I settled on a coral, peach, and yellow garland and when I started making these adorable tassels I couldn’t believe how easy it was! The best part is that all you need is string!! Here is quick tutorial of how I made these lovelies.

easy diy tassel how to tutorial

I picked up some pretty crochet thread in coral, peach, and yellow, and also one that had a little bit of metallic gold in it. But you can use any type of string or yarn.

easy diy tutorial tassel garland

I wanted the tassels to be a decent size so I ended up using the iPad as my ruler! I wrapped the thread around the iPad approximately 80 times for each tassel. This is obviously a great project to do while you sit in front of the tv and watch Netflix!

how to make a tassel easy diy tutorial

After 80 rounds, I clipped the end of the string and slid the entire loop off of the iPad. I cut a piece of the metallic thread and simply tied a knot around the middle of my yellow thread loop.

tassel tutorial how to for yellow coral room or nurseryAfter the knot was tied I took the entire loop and folded it in half. Then I used the metallic thread again and wrapped it around the top of the tassel about 10 times. I clipped the end and just tied it off.

Than all you have to do is clip the bottom of the tassel so that it is no longer in a million loops!

As I was hanging up the garland this weekend I realized I was going to need MORE tassels! So I created a few more in each color and I am adding in gold tassels as well. I have a couple more gold tassels to make and then the garland should be complete! Completed garland pic coming soon  :)

Puddle Jumpin’

It’s been an interesting week here at casa de lew. Highlights include going to Utopia, TX (fun), hitting a deer (not fun), and catching baby puke in my hand (really not fun). Yup. We came home early from Utopia last Friday and we were greeted with a light, steady rain fall while we all napped. After naps, we went on a walk and Paige wanted to get out and walk a bit. She played in her first puddles and thought it was quite fun! Well, of course I didn’t have my camera! We ate dinner and came back out to the puddle because I really wanted to document her first puddle jumpin’. She wasn’t nearly as thrilled with the puddle on the second attempt but I’m still really glad to have captured these photos so I can document the memory  :)
