As if I needed more earrings after making 19 bazillion pairs of these beauties, I decided to make fabric button earrings!! I just love being able to customize pieces so they are exactly what I want!
Fabric
Cover Button Kit
Hot Glue Gun
Earring Backs
Scissors or Pliers
Make sure you get the cover button kit and not just the refill if you don’t have the blue and white plastic button making pieces (see above).
This is where you could and probably should use pliers. I just used an old crappy pair of scissors to squeeze off the back loop.
On the back of the button cover kit there is this button pattern. I found that I needed to cut my circles just a little bit bigger.
You’ll use the blue piece to push down the back of the button so it is secured waaay down in there.
I could make these all day! So easy, cheap, and addicting![]()

Adrienne - Thank you for the detailed simple instructions! I saw in YouTube that if the buttons are bigger to place the earring back towards the top so that it will hang better. I can’t wait to try this!!

nina - i love these so much! i stayed up until 3am making a ton of these! i am having a problem though with the earring back coming off – the glue gun is just not strong enough over time. do you have any suggestions to keep them secure for good?
Sada - Hi Nina! I haven’t had that issue yet, but maybe you should consider using a stronger, more permanent glue?

I'm all about making my own pieces so THANK YOU! I usually use super glue on my earrings it works better than some glue guns ( it depends really on the quality of glue though too)

Abby - Where do you get your fabric? I love those patterns! (and do you buy scraps?)
Sada - I think these fabrics were actually all from Joann’s, but I get a lot of my fabric at http://www.fabric.com these days…
SassyKay - These earrings are adorable! If you sew your own clothing, there’d always be scraps to use to match your outfit. But, I’ll bet you could even farm enough fabric from a skirt or dress hem to make matching earrings too. Love it.
